A gentle portrait of a Colombian opera singer who struggles with addiction and mental health issues

C IS FOR COLOMBIA

I believe this to be the first film by filmmaker Laura Huertas Millan, who has become a definite discovery for me in 2019. It tells of Nohemi Millan, the author’s aunt, an opera singer who struggles with addiction and mental health issues. A tender, humane portrait of a tender human, with a close consideration of the way one’s illness and addiction send ripples on the existence of their relatives. Succinct but powerful: a lesson in documentary filmmaking for even much more experienced authors.
