A IS FOR AZERBAIJAN

I’ve been breaking my head over where and when I’d first seen Faig Ahmed’s works, and can’t remember. Whenever and wherever that was, his art made an impression. Ahmed blends the traditional carpets of Azerbaijan and surrounding regions with contemporary motifs, such as pixellation, 3D enhancement, blending, abstract geometry, and distortion. The results are fantastic, it’s the exact kind of art which you see and say: oh, this makes so much sense, why hadn’t anyone thought of this before? But that’s exactly what pure genius is.
