C IS FOR CHINA
A great documentary primer on queer life in China, so comprehensive that at times it reminded me of a power point presentation. Unfortunately, the English subtitles were made by someone who clearly doesn’t know much about queerness (i.e. using the words “sex change”). None the less, a very interesting introduction for anyone who isn’t familiar with the subject, especially in the midst of all the outcry regarding Weibo’s censoring of LGBTQ-content. Best thing I learned: apparently, the same word, “tongzhi”, is used in Mandarin to say “comrade” and “queer. I’m adopting new drag king name Comrade Queer ASAP.
