Noisia, Split the Atom, review

N IS FOR NETHERLANDS

I am often vary of electronic music when it ages, but I just gave this a listen, and Split the Atom sounds as fresh as it did in 2010. And that just shows a fault in my thinking: unlike the very particular extremely stylized indie outfits, whose music sounds like retro now (I love LCD Soundsystem but it makes me feel old), serious electronica doesn’t age fast. Noisia’s drum n bass with a dollop of rap, in that sense, is not the best representative of Dutch culture, I guess, but that’s the whole point of my pursuits in this blog: to show both the blended, and the marginalized. Noisia, who had released on all the cool labels, are definitely the former, and also a testament that Europe is where electronica’s at.
