M IS FOR MALAWI
Elson Kambalu looks super young, cute and cheerful: like someone you’d want to ask out to drink a few bottles of wine and do mischief. But he is in fact his homeland’s leading visual artist, a film director, a scholar of African art, an art dealer, and a pedagogue. I have no idea how to get my hands on his movie which is sold by phone in Malawi, and I could not exactly find hi-res pictures of his full paintings (which I understand), I decided to share this picture of Elson singing along with his painting called “Choir”. Because his lightheartedness together with his cleverness and talent are what made me attracted to Kambalu’s work in the first place.
