Oman is less known for its culture than many other countries of the Middle East, but it has things to be proud of. For instance, the US-educated artist Hassan Meer who is currently at the forefront of the artistic movement in his home country. In the featured photo series, Meer juxtaposes the traditions of his homeland, in this instance relating to marriage rites, with modernization and current events. The project is mesmerizing. Not only have its subjects been absent from depiction in muslim art, but the concept is very clever, and filled with a measured amount of longing and hope.
