When memory loss is not the plot for a romantic comedy, it gets pretty dark, as shown in this dark thriller
P IS FOR POLAND
Memory loss is often the subject of romantic comedies and other lighthearted fare, but its reality is much darker. Alicja is a woman who appears out of nowhere, and has to readapt to society, nurturing the persona of a rebel. However, as her family tracks her down, it turns out that she is in fact a suburban married mother of a preschooler. As Alicja tries to navigate her now alienating past, the murky truth of her disappearance reemerges. I thought that the film was fascinating, albeit not perfectly executed, and the leading performance by Gabriela Muskala is beautiful and harrowing.
