I IS FOR IRAQ and U IS FOR USA

Very jealous of everyone who is in London and will be able to see Michael Rakowitz’s sculpture on Trafalgar Square’s fourth plinth. It’s based on the Assyrian sculpture of a winged bull in Nineveh, that was recently destroyed by ISIS. I always get sad when fundamentalists destroy ancient art but end up thinking that this is nothing compared to the lives that they take. Well, apparently, we can reconstruct ancient art we’ve lost. And Iraqi-American Rakowitz did it poignantly using 10.5K empty date syrup cans from Iraq. I wish we could also make humans anew :( Anyway, there’s also an exhibition at Plinth gallery with some really cool date-related merch on sale. Wish I could go!
