Oumou Sangaré has one of the most powerful voices in the world. And, thankfully, she doesn’t only use it to create beautiful music, she also speaks out against the injustices that women face, from strictly regional issues like child marriage, to universal struggles, like suicide. She had recently collaborated with producers from Sweden and France to make her sound more contemporary and accessible to a younger audience. I’m not that young but damn that throaty voice mixing with afrobeat drums and the traditional calabash are the music of tomorrow.
