A IS FOR ARGENTINA

One of the most unforgettable films I’ve seen lately. A quietly searing, brilliant story about a family of three young women and their preteen brother playing guards to their mentally ill mother who has to be isolated from them. Family worlds are always fascinating, but when they are built around such a heavy load, the comedy and the tragedy blend together and produce a tangle of absurdity and rawness that can’t be paralleled.

This hits so close to home, I just watched coldly and then started sobbing. Children deserve to have their kingdoms free of secrets and doors that can’t be opened.

So Long Enthusiasm (Adiós entusiasmo), 2017
Director: Vladimir Durán
