Katya is a bilingual Russian/English writer, translator, and editor based in NYC. A recent Columbia University graduate, Katya is currently at work on her first novel about post-Soviet Russia.
As a child, Katya used to read a lot of folk tales from all over the world, so it was a natural progression for her to embrace the planet’s many art forms by founding Supamodu roughly two decades later. Katya is especially fascinated by self-taught artists and avant-garde musicians, but she’s interested in anything liminal, queer, indigenous, related to class or migration.
Katya wrote:
The Fierce and Tender Drag Legend of Lucha Libre—‘Cassandro, the Exótico!’, dir. Marie Losier, 2018
Glitter and queerness are not what most people expect from Mexican wrestling, yet they're what Cassandro dabbles in: meet him and the ghosts that haunt him in this breathtaking documentary
